Loving my new collectorz.com comic book collection app.  For around $50, I was able to input my books in a flash (instead of typing everything by hand), and export my collection to a website.  Now when I'm in a comic book store, I can pull the page up on my phone and see what I own before I make a purchase... no more accidental duplicates!  No more paper lists!  I entered my 60's - 80's comics and uploaded it.... I still have four more boxes to go.  Check it out.

Found these the other day... I don't remember buying them but I'm sure glad I did! For the prices I paid, I hope they went up in value....

Zallinger - Draw A Dinosaur Day

So today is Draw A Dinosaur Day - it's that simple - draw a dinosaur and send it over to drawadinosaurday.com.  In honor of this momentous day, I'd like to mention one of my early influences... Rudolph F. Zallinger, who is probably best known for his Age Of Reptiles mural on display at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History.  He illustrated an Giant Golden Book as well that I still have from my childhood days.  Maybe later I will post a few photos from it.  His work is stunning.  I wish I could paint as well as him!

Here is a drawing I did (a while ago) in colored pencil.  A similar version of this (which has long since been lost) won in an art contest sponsored by the US Postal Service to design a dinosaur stamp.

My First Comics

Superfriends #13 from 1978. I love it because it has the Wondertwins in it.

Superman 326 also from 1978.

Action Comics 486, from 1978.  These were all Whitman variants, that came in the same package.  I can thank my dad for getting these for me, and starting me down the road as a huge DC Comics fan.

Daft Punk - One More Time

This video, and several others from the album "Discovery", were created by anime legend Leji Matsumoto.  His other works include Yamato/Star Blazers, Galaxy Railways, and Captain Harlock.... his style is recognizable and comes thru in this video.  The entire album was animated into a DVD called Interstella 5555.

Vehicle Voltron by Toynami

I REALLY want this!!!

Vehicle Voltron by Toynami

Yamato 2199

My favorite cartoon from elementary school days, above all, was Star Blazers.  I would willingly get up every morning at 6am to watch it.  I would even use my tape recorder to get audio copies of the show, and I would draw it incessantly (flashback illustrations forthcoming).  I've spent the greater part of my adult life collecting everything of the series I can, on DVD, imported books, and domestic comic book form.  I am totally thrilled that it's getting a second live in Japan right now.  The story is being retold, with 21st century production quality.  Check it out.

Adam & Andy

One of my favorite web comics is Adam & Andy by James Asal, Jr.  I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was cartooning HairyerParts for the Northeast Ursamen, and I am lucky enough to own an autographed copy of his book.  His comic is a slice-of-life strip featuring two hunky gay guys.... something a lot of us can appreciate.  James was super-friendly, and very encouraging of my endeavors as a cartoonist.  Please check out his work, and get yourself a copy of his book - it's so important that we support our gay talent and gay businesses.  I just wish more people could see his work - it's really good!

Hairyer Parts

In the spirit of trying things out, I created a Google+ page for my cartooning site, Hairyer Parts.  It's been so long since I've edited that website, it's really time for a hard reboot of the Hairyer Parts Universe.... with my 4-year presidency of the Ursamen at a close, and a very major project at work winding down, I will finally have some free time coming soon.

My First Blog Post

I've been mulling over the idea of creating a blog, and thought I would give it a whirl tonight.

I actually have a blog out on Livejournal, but I have not updated in eons, and frankly, I was getting a little tired getting spam posts on it.  Sooo... consider this blog 2.0.  There is no real reason for this blog at this time.  It will be one part life experience, one part creative outlet, one part "gee, isn't this thing I found on the web really cool??"  It's meant more to be a digital scratchpad than anything else.  Maybe over time it will take some shape.  We shall see.

Most people who know me, know that I really love Facebook.  I've spent the greater part of the last four years on there making friends and promoting events.  This blog is meant to be a departure of sorts.  I'm thinking of this site as a place for me to relax, stretch out, and try some new things... and speak my mind if need be.

Cheers :-)
